High-tech ways to monitor Bangkok road conditions
Traffy
Thailand’s National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC) has developed Traffy, an excellent Google Maps mashup that makes it easy to follow Bangkok traffic conditions.
traffic.thai.net
NECTEC also runs traffic.thai.net, an interactive traffic map service similar to the Google Maps mashup above.
We haven’t had time to organize translation of the Thai on these but the maps are pretty self-explanatory. With both maps, you may need to zoom in a bit (scroll your mouse wheel or use the zoom controls) to get a clearer picture of traffic conditions in particular areas.
BKKTraffic.com
Another nifty piece of work from NECTEC and partners, BKKTraffic.com lets users focus on traffic hotspots of particular interest. There are version in both English and Thai, as well as versions in English and Thai optimized for mobile users.
We haven’t had a chance to play with the mobile versions, so we cannot vouch for their usefulness but we are always keen for feedback on the value of these resources so let us know how you get on with them.
