Events have heated up considerably in Thailand’s capital today as troops attempt to regain control of several key areas. All services have been suspended on the BTS SkyTrain. The big shopping malls around the rally site at Rajprasong intersection had been open earlier but all closed around 2.30pm. Many foreign visitors found themselves essentially trapped at busy tourist areas like Rajprasong intersection and Khao San Road.
A number of key roads and bridges are blocked, either by protesters’ barricades or by troops. It is extremely hot today and is forecast to get even hotter over the next few days.
